This week I was blessed with an extraordinary experience. I got to listen to a sweet lady talk about her life, who was only 8 years old when her parents were killed. She‘s now travelling from Belgium to Germany among other countries to raise awareness. And she told us, it was now upon us to keep spreading the word. And as I want to do my part, I‘ll tell you a bit of her story. Also she wrote a book about her life, which I‘m reading now. It‘s called: Willst Du meine Mutter sein? For those of you who understand German, here‘s a link about her talking at my town in German: https://www.swr.de/swraktuell/rheinland-pfalz/mainz/holocaust-zeitzeugin-spricht-mit-ingelheimer-schuelern-100.html For the non German speaking lot, here‘s what I found for you: https://www.eeas.europa.eu/eeas/let-no-one-tarnish-memory-holocaust_en After having been introduced to us, Henriette Kretz started talking in a very calm voice how she had grown up in a loving family, her father being a medical doctor, and having a nanny her days were really happy as a little girl. Though of course there was no TV or anything alike back in the day, she had a lot of fun playing outside with other kids. She also had dog called Rolf who was pretty big. Until one day there were planes in the air fighting each other and her parents decided they had to leave Iwaniska, Poland and migrate to Lemberg in 1939. Henriette learned that there was a war in Germany that Jews fled from and she asked her mother: „What is a Jew?“ To which her mother answered: „We are Jews.“ Though they had family in Lemberg, she had to leave her friends and dog behind and start over. She went to a Russian kindergarten and the family got a new dog Zerberus Mars. Her dad got a job in a sanatorium for kids with tuberculosis. But not too long after they had settled in all sorts of restrictions against Jews were passed and the war found their new home and again people had to flee the town. Not wanting to go without her husband her mother went to the sanatorium where most kids had been picked up, but those whose parents were living further away. Her family was told to go ahead and leave, but her dad said no, he had the responsibility for those kids and he took them all home till their parents were able to pick them up. By then it was too late to escape. They had to hide, in the end in a place so small that she couldn‘t even stand up and it was dark in there all day. Her parents told her stories all day long to pass the time , but it was really touching when she expressed the joy she felt when she got to leave her hiding place for a moment to move. Also she talked about life in the ghetto that they ended up in and the hunger she felt. She was so hungry that she could think of nothing else. And then came the day when her parents and her were taken away to get shot. Her dad realized this and said to the soldiers, that if they wanted to shoot him they should go ahead and do it now, he was not walking any further. So they stopped, got a gun and her dad jumped on them and called for her to run. She did . She was only 8 years old. She heard shots and her mother screaming. Then she heard more shots and she knew she didn‘t have parents anymore. And she kept running. By then she had nobody left in the world but she kept running. Trust me, it was very moving and many tears were shed in the auditorium. Her story was much much longer but I think you got an idea. We got to ask questions in the end and one was: How did you get through all of this without breaking, how did you maintain your positivity? To which she answered: „ Life is beautiful. I have experienced so many people helping me and the good outweighs the bad. But what I learned along the way is: there really isn‘t more than one race. We are all human. That‘s it. What happened back then can happen in any country, any dictatorship.“ I thought I would leave the panel with a heavy heart but no, it was quite the opposite. I thought when an 8 year old can lose all her family in the world and still grow up to be such a positive 89 year old, there is still hope for this world. But we need to protect it. If you read all this, I thank you for doing so.

Do you remember any Shakespeare you read in school? The topic came up in my family and ironically my daughter‘s teacher chose the same play that I had to study back in the day. I still have my own copy of Macbeth, I found it and am reading it again. No, not in the original Klingon, but in English 🤣 I want to know what it‘s like to read it that many years later with all that I‘ve been through. I got really excited and thought I‘d share. Did any of you study any Shakespeare in school? Which play and what did you take from it if anything? I‘d love to hear your thoughts! „ So foul and fair a day I have not seen“

I know you hate the Internet and I get it, I totally do, I can relate in many ways, but today I am so grateful for getting to watch one of your panels online as I couldn’t make it to Ghent. This was the first communion weekend and my little boy went. We had 2 church services and most of the family came and we celebrated , some of them still haven’t left. I’m really really sorry but hosting all this there was no way I could leave😢 But from what I saw you were brilliant, you made my day, you made me smile and cry a little bit and I thank God for you. I will make it up to you when I get to see you again because I really don’t think you get paid nearly enough for the excellent work you do. But for now take my praise and love! Hugs and kisses 😘

Has anyone seen Anyone But You? My 16 yo told me it was great, so I went with my 12 and 17yo and her friend who’s dad is very ill, so she really needed to have some distraction. It was hilarious, I was laughing out loud a couple of times, and then I went home and gave my 16 yo an earful!!! No, not because of some body parts at display but because with not a single word did she mention to me that Michelle Hurd was in it!!!! And looking gorgeous in her yellow dress! I almost screamed Raffi! So clearly thumbs up for this movie! 🍿 👍🖖

As I'm preparing for my daugther's 18th birthday which marks the beginning of adulthood in my corner of the world I'm curious: What did you get for your first birthday as an adult? Which presents do you remember and what meant the most to you? And what do you wish your mother had told you back then about life as an adult?

Dear Marina, I wanted to take a minute to let you know that my 13 yo Donna (she'll be 14 in May) is doing much better. She completly stopped limping and eats and plays like a puppy again, make my heart really happy. She enjoys our walks again and we really use those precious first sunny days. Totally lifts our spirits. I hope you get to enjoy some walks with Dennis as well and that you'll have a wonderful spring and are looking forward to your birthday coming up. I'm keeping you in my prayers and I'm really thankful for every minute you take to chat with us fans. I wish you could sense the joy I feel when I see your messages. Especially today I'm so very thankful to have you and all the people that I got to know because of you in my life. I still can't wipe that stupid grin off my face that I've had on since the football comment you made to me this morning. It means so much to me Marina. Of course I had to tell all my family and they are happy, too. You have a place in our hearts Marina, never forget that. All my love and a great big hug Astrid P.S.: Just had to add this little anecdote: My little boy just came downstairs all excited this early morning hour and had to tell me about what he dreamt last night: He said he was playing football with his friends at our local playground which has a sand football field with just one goal. And then the most amazing thing happened: Manuel Neuer drove by and stopped and decided to join the game. He was the keeper and my little boy got to be a defender. He said this dream made him so happy because he got to see his idol. And he‘s hoping to get to see him in real life one day. I told him I‘d love to see Harry Kane play live for once, so I guess we‘ll have to go to a Bayern game now.😖 It was totally adorable to see him so very excited early in the morning before school!

He must have known this would happen when he left the Charité in Berlin and went back to Russia. He died a marty, God rest him. How brave people in Russia must be to lay flowers for him. I hope and pray he didn't die in vain.

I think they might announce Jonathan Frakes for Dortmund in May. Are you going to be anywhere in Germany this year? Or the rest of Europe? 🙏💛🙏

You know, in day to day life I quote Marina if an opportunity arises, and it never fails to make people laugh. My American Dad is saving money so we can fly out to visit him one happy day and he told me the amount and I responded: "I guess we're not cheap to love. " He thought that was really funny. So thanks for the laugh Marina. 💛

As Christmas is approaching I would like to know everyone's wishes for Christmas and I will tell you mine: I would love for all of us die-hard Marina fans to meet in one spot at one time. My favorite reason for this would be our beloved Marina on a theater stage, but it could be any occasion really. Somebody's 70 th birthday will be coming up, but who's counting? And wouldn't it be great, if we could all sing happy birthday to Marina in person? Are we enough to do our own convention and book Marina for it? Anyway, a girl can dream.

That poor woman having to fight for medical assistance in Texas like this is really horrible. Like she didn't have to deal with enough pain as it is already!
