I watched it all play out on twitter, and what's getting drown out in all the noise is that there was a deliberate misleading as to what would happen in episode 7 by the show runners and the sycophantic social media "influencers." Early on, there was a statement by Matalas that Troi would show up "big," starting in the sixth episode. While technically true, it gave viewers the impression that there'd be a continuation of the cliffhanger from the sixth episode into the seventh. And then, during the week between the sixth and seventh show, Matalas did soft teasing of a continuation of the Troi/Riker plotline, and he never corrected anyone who posted their excitement in response. Then one of the "influencers" who's been given screeners in advance, Sam's her name, did a straight out misdirect with posting an article BEFORE the 7th episode about how it'd be worth the wait. She knew she was giving people the impression that the storyline would continue in the immediately following 7th episode. One had to dig through the replies to see someone else who'd been access to screeners say, "Good news, yes it's good; bad news, it doesn't happen in the upcoming episode." The showrunners wanted people to stream the 7th episode and they played every card they had to try to get it. Then, when some viewers felt bait and switched, and expressed disappointment, the "influencers" who are very invested in the Legacy show being greenlit, came down hard on dissension. Rather than recognizing the bait and switch, they went into attack mode about entitlement, etc. Matalas sicced his followers on a poster or two as well. He's been doing that throughout this season. He just tweeted to someone who pointed out the leather jackets are very Star Wars in nature than Star Trek, that "no one loves you." He's got what I call grown man in short pants syndrome.
