I totally agree with you. For example, General Hospital has many senior actors including Jonathan Frakes' wife Genie Frances who gets called back every few years to do anniversary episodes and special appearances. Their ratings go up every time Genie is on just like Picard's rating went up when Jonathon and Marina appeared. Not only that, the ages of the average Trek viewers are higher than that of Star Wars with viewers starting from 10 and going to 70+. There are huge cohorts of Baby Boomers, Gen X and Millennials who are all over the age of 40. Therefore, having Classic Actors would be a viable option. At issue in regards to insurance is the amount of action i.e running, fighting and shooting scenes. If the studio can reduce these to the bare minimal and just have our Classic Actors sit in beautiful sets (offices, classrooms and bridges), it would reduce the risks to the actors. A good example of this is Nepenthe, where Picard and Riker sat on a bench and talked shop or where sitting at the dinning room table. In Grace and Frankie, most of the action takes place in offices, bedrooms, dinner tables, cars, at the beach or funeral home, where there are NUMEROUS elderly actors. This would make an episode like Data's Day an option. As for those bridge scenes, there was some shake acting, but set design could put in seat belts and have the actors act like they are in a rocking chair while they scream out their orders. We have zero tolerance for the possibility of slipping out those command chairs! 🤣😎
