Marina, what's the story behind this pic

I really like the pic too, thus why I snagged it long ago. Two of my favourite actresses together, out of makeup. It is cool, because you can tell Majel adored her.

This is yet another reason why I relate to Deanna Troi. I grew up learning about my Italian side (my mom's side) but knew nothing about my dad's side (my Greek side). I wish I had been exposed to both sides. Maybe it's wrong to feel this way, but I felt like I missed out on so much. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about his family. For instance, my paternal grandfather's family was from Paphos, Cyprus. His parents fled Cyprus in 1902 and went to Germany for 7 years. They changed their name. I don't know his wife's name but his name was Narrem Sotir and he changed it to Richard Narr (the last name comes from his original first name). My paternal grandmother's last name was actually Heikalis and her family was from Thessaloniki. At Elis Island they misinterpreted Heikalis and put down Haegele (a fairly common German last name) and they put down Germany instead of Greece for her birth country. I don't blame my dad or his family for not telling me. I doubt my dad even knew any of this. But, anyway, I can definitely relate to Deanna who was only exposed to her Betazoid side and not her human side.

I relate to Deanna on so many different levels.

However, the reason I made sure my sons knew about both sides of their ancestry, despite their dad disappearing after our divorce, is because I am part Native American. On my father's side, my grandmother was 1/2, but she refused to talk about it. I suspect she was forced into a Carlisle school. She knew the language, but wouldn't speak it too us grandkids. My father said, "In this house, you can talk about being Indian, but outside this house you are all white." I wasn't suppose to talk about it outside the house. On my mother's side, I have a great great great grandfather who was Cherokee. (I might be missing a great or two) The story was, we were on the Trail of Tears, but my ancestor was one of those who jumped off into the Ozark woods and married into the Ozarkian families. I have the name and looked on the Hester rolls, since those who jumped off are not on the Dawes rolls. Still couldn't find him. My mother's side also has Sauk and Fox, which, if I understand right is a Cherokee tribe. This is where I get confused. Sadly, the history was buried, so I know very little.

I did go to a Sweat once. WAY COOL! Go if you are ever invited to one. My hostess hoped I would have a vision, but I didn't have a vision like she would define it. My "vision" was learning something that my ancestors may have practice. I was proud to make it through all four doors without passing out from dehydration. I feared that, because she told me, "If anyone passes out during a Sweat, do not disturb them. They maybe having a vision." I did protest saying they could pass out from dehydration, but nope, no bother unconscious people. You're suppose to fast and refrain from drinking any fluids prior to a Sweat. I drunk water before I attended the Sweat, because I didn't want to pass out from dehydration. However, I did fast for over 24 hours before the Sweat. Fasting OK, but going without water. NO. lol

Anyway, because I felt I was denied knowing all my ancestry, I made damn sure my sons knew as much as I could give and teach them of what I knew, both the Black side and the white side. The slave, the slave owner, and the abolistionists in their family tree. I just coudn't tell them much about the Native Americans in my family tree.

That's what I heard but I never heard or it read directly from Majel or even Marina for that matter. I can see that being the case though looking at the pic.

There are plenty of interviews on YouTube in which Marina does mention that Majel and her husband invited Marina to many diffeernt events that they went to. They viewed her as a daughter. They were that close. So sweet!!!!!
