Yours (#9, dated 2021) was the very first episode of Gates I listened to and then I went back and listened to the first one with Jonathan. You made me laugh a couple times while I was at work listening to it. No worries, closed pharmacy that caters to long term care facilities. I'm a pharmacy tech and since it closed to the public, I can listen to almost anything, with one earbud.
Not sure if you remember any of it, but you were talking about people who puke when they do live stuff. It made me think about as a kid, my grandparents only grandchild, they'd paraded me in front of everyone one in church. They could do that, given my grandfather was an assistant precher and my grandmother the organist (I was a PC- preacher/pastor's child). I'd shake like a chihuahua in front of the congregation (yet I wanted to be an actress and dancer). My grandfather taught me a trick which was to focus on one person I was comfortable with. His trick of talking to the one person helped, but developing a persona when in front of people also helped. It's all acting whether it is a theatre stage or church a stage.
I did a similar trick during the Q&A for Gates, Michelle and Todd. I introduced myself and said I was representing Betazed. Instant persona as I looked directly at Gates when I addressed her and then at Michelle when I addressed her. I didn't shake like a chihuahua like I did when I was a little kid.
Anyway, I wanted to let you know it was a great episode and I hope you do another one with Gates soon. As I told Michelle, the time we see you at conventions and interact with any of you at a given convention is never enough. She agreed. Listening to you guys on podcasts isn't enough either.
Now the follow up questions for you. You never said if you had any tricks when you're up in front of people live, but Gates said sometimes her stomach got upset when she was live in front people. Do you have tricks to help you when you need them? That and what does that outfit your father made you look like? Oh and did you and Gates ever go on the trip to France and then Greece? You two talked about a trip you two wanted to take together. Did you ever go? Lastly, how is your dog who had the seizure doing? You didn't have to let him go after all did you?
I get a little nervous on Press night in the Theatre but apart from that I love what I do so much, I can't wait to get on stage
I've listened to that podcast episode numerous times and I loved it! I asked Gates at a con and she said they didn't go to Greece. I know Marina has only one dog left by now.
I would LOVE to see that suit your Dad tailored for you @Marina, do you still fit into it?
And I'm also interested in a behind the scenes look backstage just before you go on stage. Do you get nervous at all anymore or is only the excitement of interacting with a live audience left? Cause you sure project a very strong and steadfast woman on stage who won't take shit from anybody. It's almost like your fans are more afraid of you than vice versa!
Oh and I very much enjoy listening to you talk, so any more podcasts would be greatly appreciated, maybe some talk about how to say no and teach women more assertiveness? That would be awesome! 🙏🙏🙏💛
