With the heat of summer, I leave a basket of bottled water outside and a sign that says “Please help yourself”. Delivery workers, postal workers, etc are out here in this heat and often in non air conditioned vehicles that can reach as high as 120 F (48.8 C) and working long hours with little to no breaks. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve found the basket empty and had to refill it throughout thr day. I even had a delivery driver ring my doorbell once to thank me, saying they had gone 8 hours with no water and this was during a heat wave. Also, when workmen come over, I always offer them water. I know bottled water is expensive and not everyone can afford it or afford to be giving it away. But, if you can, please consider doing so. These are human beings working honest jobs to put food on the table and often working in conditions you or I couldn’t even imagine. Something simple like this can go a long way.

Excellent idea. Just try to put it in the shade.
That's so kind of you to do.
Reminds me of animals too. Some people think that leaving out things like bird baths and the like will allow mosquitos to breed. That's not true if you periodicaly change that water. Also, interesting fact. Are birds picking holes in your tomatoes? They're not hungry, they're thirsty. Simply leave out a pan of water by the tomato plants. My mother did this once, and it solved the problem.
I do this for my delivery guys from time to time. They tend to like water bottles and packets of nuts the most.
