Counselor Troi's empathetic powers play a lot into the plot twists of ST: TNG. But such things are unlikely in real life.
The reason Psi phenomena like telepathy, telekinesis, ESP and so forth figured prominently in TNG is because is was featured in the original series. Back then they were studying Psi in laboratories, and they thought there was something to it. There isn't. Studies on things like ESP have proven inconclusive. And things like spirits have never been demonstrated in a lab.
But it does make for interesting stories.
They tried to convince us that aliens didn't exist, just to come out and say that they do. I don't believe spirits, Psi, telepathy, telekinesis can be studied in a traditional lab model. If they are using science to theorize the possibility, then can it not be said that people who claim to be clairvoyant psychic may have a mutation of some sort?
I've seen ghosts and I've felt spirits before so I know from my experience something exist. One cannot dispell the exisitance of something because they haven't yet proved it. I think this is where the fallacy begins. Just because they haven't been able to prove it based on their science doesn't mean science isn't capable of proving it. I think humans are going to find out that we are not the most intelligent species in the universe anymore and that we only have a novice when it comes to understanding science and any -ology.
Look up HSP and Mirror touch synesthesia. Might offer you a different perspective on things 😉
The ability exists, even if many are skeptical. I dreamed about my car accident weeks before. Years before, I dreamed of one day meeting Marina. Both of these things happened in reality.
Studies might be inconclusive but I believe that some people have "the gift", "6th sense", the "eye", etc. I also firmly believe in spirits and ghosts.
Too many personal experiences to deny it.
