I suppose with the World Cup kicking off tomorrow, I should be excited. I’m not! You all know how much I love my football but I’m not buying any of the reasons that Qatar was awarded the tournament. How can I enjoy watching the beautiful game when I know that 6500 immigrant workers died building the facilities and a Qatari World Cup official called being gay “ damage in the mind“?To all the British pundits tying themselves up in knots trying to justify why they are taking this dirty money, I say you are nothing but hypocrites.

Hi Marina hope you ok do you have any upcoming appearances and work projects you can share with us? Howard
Marina, what do you think of the Argentines becoming the world champions?
It looks like the USA are going out. They’ve done amazingly well as no one expected them to even make it out of the group. Well done lads!!
My 8yo turned on the football tonight because he wanted to watch Germany play for the very first time. He used to find it boring and wouldn't sit still but now that he plays in school during recess he really got interested, so we didn't have the heart to tell him no. So shame on us. It was really exciting to see him whisper "You can do it" to our team. We cheered together and man, what a game. We could have actually scored the 5 more goals we would have needed. Hitting the post three times! Poor little man was all sad that we won the game but have to go home.
I couldn't agree with you more, I'm not a big watcher, I would like to have more time to watch, but when I found out it was in Qatar, I just couldn't stomach supporting it by watching. I get the odd update on games anyways, but I just can't bring myself to watch it for so many reasons.
I was on Duolingo and read an article on how the term soccer came about (instead of football). Marina, you’re not gonna like this, but the English actually coined the term soccer. The below article goes into more detail and even has an excerpt from an article from 1899 that says how the English even loved the new term and called it ‘innovative’. Click on the picture if you want to read the whole thing.
I read the Japanese fans stayed behind and cleaned up the mess left in stadium. #Admirable
Contrast that with team Iran that, by refusing to sing the national anthem, put their lives at risk when they return home. SO COURAGEOUS!!
Very proud that England took a knee before the match yesterday but very disappointed that they were bullied into not wearing the One Love captain’s armband. They were told they’d probably get a caution ( yellow card) Of course 2 cautions and you’re banned from the next match! I’m sure the pressure to do what was best for the team was overwhelming
#FootballHeadache
I'm really disappointed in our team. Manuel Neuer pulled back from wearing the pride colored one love captain's armband. No matter what kind of sanctions they'd be getting, it would have been so worth it! Left their backbone at home, really!
It’s honestly sickening and I wholeheartedly support your decision not to watch, Marina. Honestly, I don’t understand why this atrocity hasn’t received more media attention. I mean, I do; they don’t want bad publicity. But that just shows us where their priorities are. 😡
They’ve only been playing for 5 minutes and it looks like the fishy business has already started. Ecuador just had a goal disallowed for seemingly no reason. I’m switching off.
I completely agree. The reasons given are specious and merely emphasised the level of corruption involved in awarding the World Cup to Qatar.
It pains me. The world cup was something i watched with my dad (tho i am half german and half italian and my dad is the german side so.. it was kinda tough when german played against italy because I was threatened being disowned by two sides of my family lol) but its something we did together him and i... and .. its probably the only thing. But yes. Not this year. Instesd of watching soccer in my lucky shirt and lucly shoes (yes i do that) i will do other things. I can't stand with whats happening and has happend for the world cup to take place and i just wont.
The feeling is very mutual and I'll not be watching any football! Neither will my husband who really loves it and for the very same reasons. I'm really sorry though that you can't enjoy your very favorite game now😢💛
😔😪💔 I'm so sorry to see this. I can only imagine your heartbreak and frustration.
