Hey guys, I just saw an item on the BBC about how a lot of the chicken we eat may be dosed with antibiotics especially if it comes from Poland and some other Countries. I'm pretty sure it's happening in the UK and America as well. People ( especially children) are dying because we have become so resistant to the drugs. Scientists are saying that in the not too distant future, more people will die because of this than die of cancer. Please check labels, my friends.

🙏 for the info Marina. We'll be even more careful then usual. If it's not organic we usually don't get it.
I agree, antibiotics in our food are terrible and let's not even talk about the hormons they put in our food... The hormons are causing precocious puberty among little girls, drastically effecting their qulity of life.
Seems like we hardly have any control of what we eat.
I always have thought it’s worth spending a little bit more money on meat and I usually check labels to make sure it’s British and free range chicken I’m buying where possible. There are some supermarkets that are better than others ethical-wise.
I found a local butcher which is 30 mins walk through some fields on a farm and I go there and stock up on meat quite a lot - I’ve found it’s not anymore expensive than a supermarket (maybe even cheaper) and because I live by myself it’s nice to be able to get the exact weight I want instead of a “pack”. All the meat is locally farmed or sourced.
Thanks Marina,
As much as a benefit that antibiotics have been to society, the over use of a thing will supercede the benefits. I say this as a scientist with a biology background.
Bacteria and viruses have one purpose in life and that's to survive and multiply. The most elementary approach is to mutate so the antibodies within the host can't detect them, and therefore kill it. The consequences from decades of over prescribing and misuse of antibiotics, and misuse/incomplete vaccine dosing, is going to affect us more and more.
On a positive note, more and more information is coming out about immunotherapy treatments for certain cancers. However, I can't help but wonder that if we kept cancer causing agents out of our food and water supply, there would be less to worry about.
I'll continue to grow my little garden every summer, move toward a more plant centeric diet, recycle and reuse, and hope that the EPA decides to regulate PFAs/PFOs in our water supply one day.
That's why I keep chickens, but it would be difficult to solve this in the city. Honey from China is also full of antibiotics. Unfortunately, the label does not provide security.
This is a very real thing and precisely how MRSA was born. And it's scary because in the US, the overuse of antibiotics was already an issue. For years, doctors prescribed antibiotics for "precautionary measures" or for conditions that didn't warrant such, like viruses. Then, as a measure to cram more animals into unhealthy environments, they treat them with antibiotics we weren't aware of. Recipe for a super bug brewing...
The meat is tainted by farmers, the vegetables are tainted by air pollution...shall we eat chocolate?
Nope, too much of that will only make me sick. This is why I am food aversive in general 😔
I do live in a really small town and i actually get my eggs and stuff right from a small farm not far from where i live. I can get my chicken from there as well as well as beef and pork. Could get my milk from there too but i am kinda into oatmilk at the moment. But yes, i agree - check labels, dont just buy without making sure.
This is the exact reason I buy antibiotic free. It’s in eggs and chickens as well. Always read your labels people. Thanks for the info Marina.
Thank you for the heads up especially since my mum can't eat any meat except for poultry
I've always checked labels, but I will absolutely keep this one in mind! I'm not as much of a chicken eater as I used to be, though I'll keep vigilant. Thanks.
In Germany you can buy so called bio meat, those animals are not treated with antibiotics and are more healthy. Resistant bacteria already are and will be causing even more fatal infections. We really have to cut down the use of antibiotics in general and really only prescribe them specifically and when it's really necessary and then follow through with the complete therapy so that we don't cultivate more resistant germs.
